Torqeedo Ultralight Outperforms Ocean Kayak's Torque Angler on The Gadget Show
Last week we informed you of The Gadget Show reviewing Torqeedo products during its latest series. Last night (August 9th) saw the first of the two episodes and covered in this episode was the Torqeedo Ultralight, for kayaks and canoes.

GREAT YARMOUTH, ENGLAND, August 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Suzi and Ortis were competing against one another during the Great Outdoors Challenge spread over 3 parts. Part two were the water based challenges. After the pair raced to an island by paddling in a kayak they were then able to switch to a powered kayak.

Suzi chose to ride the kayak powered by the Ultralight outboard and Ortis was left with the Ocean Kayak Torque edition. This kayak came with a Minn Kota outboard which fitted inside the kayak. The best feature about this kayak was that everything was integrated within the kayak itself. The outboard itself was suitable for sea or fresh water (as is the Torqeedo Ultralight) but only capable of a max speed of 5.5mph.

The Torqeedo Ultralight is capable of a top speed of 6.5mph and Suzi soon found it to be a "beast" while Ortis was "painfully lagging behind". Both the kayaks featured hands free, pedal steering and only Ortis found this as a major benefit as he used his paddle to increase his speed while Suzi went "full power" and hadn't lifted a finger.

The Torqeedo Ultralight proved to be a worthy winner in this part of the challenge for the following reasons: It was more powerful, less expensive than the Ocean Kayak Torque and above all, it's able to be integrated to most kayaks and canoes.

The Ultralight Outboard Motor is designed to fit as many kayaks and canoes as possible with its socket and ball joint. Only its mounting ball is permanently attached to the boat, letting the motor to be removed when it's not needed.

An outboard suitable for kayaks needs to meet very special standards: It must be extremely light and also watertight. The motor needs to fit onto almost any kayak. It must be faster than a kayaker can paddle, and provide a worthwhile range. - The Torqeedo Ultralight meets these requirements.
