LEGENDARY OLSON 30 RACING SAILBOAT MARKS 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA Pioneer of Modern Ultra Light Displacement Boats Still Respected after Three Decades
/Boating News Articles/ - OXNARD, CA, March 28, 2008 - The Olson 30 Class Association announces the fleet's 30th Anniversary National Championship for 2008. The four-day regatta and commemorative events, scheduled for July 17 through 20, 2008, will be hosted by the Channel Islands Yacht Club in Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard, Calif. The Association welcomes race competitors from the entire Olson fleet, which extends across the United States from the Pacific states to the Great Lakes, Canada, the Chesapeake, the Northeast, Texas, and the Southeast, extending to Florida.
The boat was designed by George Olson at Pacific Boats in Santa Cruz, Calif., 30 years ago with then-revolutionary ultra light displacement boat (ULDB) fiberglass construction. Fast and maneuverable, the Olson 30 sailboat is known nationally and internationally for winning in tough ocean races against boats 10 and 20 feet longer. The Championship race will be run outside Channel Islands Harbor. The Association will issue photographs and more information about the races, celebrations and the boat over the coming weeks prior to the regatta.
