Free Sailing For All Launches 2008 Sailing Season in New England
Annual Boston event expects to draw thousands seeking fun things to do outdoors as weather warms.

/Boating News Articles/ - BOSTON, MA, March 13, 2008 - A weekend of free sailing trips along Boston's historic waterfront will usher in the start of the New England sailing season on Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27, 2008, from 1pm to 5pm.

The event is organized each year by the Boston Sailing Center (www.bostonsailingcenter.com) located on Lewis Wharf in downtown Boston.

First-time sailors as well as more experienced skippers are invited to join the festivities at Lewis Wharf. Harbor sailing trips will be conducted by experienced sailors aboard a fleet of boats ranging in length from 23 to 40 feet. The Center's teaching staff will be on hand to answer questions about sailing terms and basic techniques, popular sailing vacation spots, and about Boston Harbor and the islands. Refreshments will be available during the event.

Those who sign up for lessons or memberships during the event will have a portion of the fee donated to Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, a nonprofit agency working to conserve and improve Boston Harbor as a recreational resource.

This year's event marks the 32nd annual Free-Sailing Weekend sponsored by the Center. Headquartered in a converted Louisiana riverboat docked at Lewis Wharf, the Center's floating classroom and boat moorings are just a short walk north of Faneuil Hall Marketplace along Atlantic Avenue. Public parking is available nearby.
