Two Auxiliarists Aid Boater
Two Coast Guard auxiliarists provided medical assistance to a boater who was injured when his vessel was involved in a collision with a barge near southern Staten Island, N.Y., at approximately 8:00 tonight.

Two Auxiliarists Aid Boater
/24-7PressRelease/ - NEW YORK, NY, June 11, 2005 - Two Coast Guard auxiliarists provided medical assistance to a boater who was injured when his vessel was involved in a collision with a barge near southern Staten Island, N.Y., at approximately 8:00 tonight.
The boater, Michael Yatsko, was in stable condition when he was picked up by a Perth Amboy Yacht Club launch after he and his uncle, Richard Yatsko, went into the water.
Richard Yatsko was picked up by the NYPD in critical condition.
Michael Yatsko was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, N.J. Richard Yatsko was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J.
The two auxiliarists were on patrol in the area before boarding the yacht club launch with a medical kit to provide medical assistance.
The auxiliarists were George Reilly, 62, and Salvatore Ruggiero, 51, both of Colonia, N.J.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is an all-volunteer, nonpaid part of the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of this incident.
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is composed of uniformed, non-military volunteer's who assist the Coast Guard in all of its varied missions, except for military and direct law enforcement. These men and women can be found on the nation's waterways, in the air, in classrooms and on the dock, performing Maritime Domain Awareness patrols, safety patrols, vessel safety checks and public education.
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and re-designated as the Auxiliary in 1941. Its 30,000 members donate millions of hours annually in support of Coast Guard missions.
